WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF CULTURE AND AESTHETICS
|
Culture is “the totality of socially transmitted behaviour patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought… considered as the expression of a particular period, class, community, or population”. It encompasses “intellectual and artistic activity and the works produced by it.” Aesthetics is “a guiding principle in matters of artistic beauty and taste”. Thus, pupil’s of Mayflower Primary’s CAC club employ an “artistic sensibility” when exploring notions of culture.
The youngest of CCA clubs in the school, the Cultural Aesthetics Club was formed as result of the amalgamation of the now defunct English Drama Club and Chinese Drama Club. It is thus no surprise that Drama forms our primary vehicle of artistic exploration in the world of culture. Presentation skills such as articulation, pronunciation, public speaking and voice projection are taught and practiced alongside theatre skills such as dramatisation, characterisation, role-play, improvisation, body awareness, movement, mime, and theatrical skills. Our motto, ‘United-Confidence-Creative-Action’, represents our combined search for new meanings within ourselves and the world beyond.
These talented pupils have a desire and keenness to role-play and act and have put up a number of entertaining skits for school assembly programmes and other key school events. The aim of the club is primarily to develop pupils’ passion and interest in the cultural arts whilst simultaneously building up their confidence in public speaking through imaginative and creative cultural and aesthetic performances.
Members undergo weekly training sessions every Friday morning.
