ExCitE! (P1 –P6)

The name ExCitE stands for “Exemplary Citizens Everyday”. It is a programme that aims to realize the school’s vision of creating Exemplary Citizens of Tomorrow.  ExCitE! lessons were introduced in 2007 to reflect the change in school vision and core values as well as to incorporate the teaching of social and emotional learning (SEL) competencies, habits of mind and cyberwellness.  Pupils learn about values through strategies that help them process their learning of values rather than being told explicitly by the teachers what is right or wrong.  Interesting stories and relevant articles are used to provide pupils with examples of values in action.  Through activities like role-playing and games pupils have the opportunity to observe both positive and negative behaviour from an objective perspective.  Follow-up discussions allow them to listen to other people’s point of view and reflect on their own thoughts.  Through their active participation, pupils learn and internalize values. The values taught are further reinforced during core and non-core lessons, CCAs and enrichment activities. Unplanned opportunities that arise incidentally are also used to teach or reinforce learning of these competencies and values in pupils. Assembly programmes are an additional platform where our pupils are engaged in values and National education talks and activities.

Termly Model Pupil Award
The Termly Model Pupil Award was first introduced in 2009. Form teachers of each level will use the model pupil selection form to select the model pupil for his/her class during each term. These are the pupils who exhibit our school core values in their daily practices and live up to our school vision “Exemplary Citizens of Tomorrow”. Certificates will then be issued out to these pupils and a write-up of their character traits by the form teachers will be displayed for pupils to read and follow

Kindness Movement Week
This activity is carried out in conjunction with the Singapore Kindness Movement. During the week we  promote kindness among our pupils through assembly talks, hands-on activities like designing  a thank you card for friends/teachers/parents (P1,P2), making a friendship band (P3,P4), sending a note of appreciation to a school personnel (P5, P6). It is a week assigned to encourage, recognize and acknowledge kindness in spontaneous actions.

"Catch Them Good"  (P1 - P6)
“Catch Them Good” is a programme where pupils are affirmed for displaying positive behaviour such as good manners and values.  The underlying belief is that when pupils are affirmed for their positive behaviour, they will be encouraged to repeat the behaviour.  All staff (both teaching and non-teaching) in the school are issued with “Catch Them Good” stickers.  Any staff that comes across a pupil exhibiting a positive act can give a sticker to the pupil.

However, stickers must be given together with verbal affirmations so that the pupils know what the positive behaviour that they have displayed is.  This programme not only encourages pupils to exhibit positive consistently but also helps teachers to be more conscious about watching out for the positive behaviour in the pupils.
