Development Through Drama (DTD)

 

Mayflower’s unique programme which is tailored specially for our pupils.  This programme uses Drama-in-Education as an alternative pedagogy in providing access to a contextualized, creative and engaging mode of learning to acquire English Language and make sense of the concepts learnt from other subjects.  Drama for literacy and oracy is used in the Primary 1 and 2 STELLAR (Strategies for English Language and Reading) curriculum.  DTD provides a rich environment for communication that foster listening, reading and writing skills.  It provides a platform for pupils to be actively engage in their learning, boosting their confidence in the use of language and promoting collaboration among from different socio-cultural backgrounds.

 

 

The Voice, English Broadcast Programme

 

This is a supporting weekly broadcasting programme where visual input is provided together with audio input for pupils to make meaning of what they hear and see.  It provides opportunities for pupils to listen to different literary genres for appreciation, enjoyment and personal development.

Reading for Pleasure and Purpose Programme (R3P)

 

This is a weekly programme that aims to help weak readers develop a love for reading and acquire the appropriate reading skills.   Besides exposing pupils to the various genres of reading, they also get to develop critical reading skills that are useful in the comprehension of texts.

Essence of LITErature (ELITE)

 

The ELITE Programme is in the second year for high progressed pupils.  This is comprehensive, thematic, integrated and cross-curricular programme.  It is an enriched English curriculum that aims to expose the high-progress pupils to authentic literary texts and to develop their cognitive, literacy and oracy skills.
