By using age-appropriate assessment in the lower primary years, our school is focusing its efforts on building our pupils’ confidence and desire to learn .
Instead of a heavy emphasis on year-end pen-and-paper examinations, we are using a range of assessment modes and bite-sized forms of assessment for richer feedback on learning. Care is taken to ensure a good balance of assessments across various areas of learning. There is a balance between assessments that provide feedback and do not count towards a final grade and assessments that are graded to check for mastery of learning.
Our school has developed level-wide assessment plans with our children in mind. We will be using portfolios to compile pupils’ work and this will provide insights as well as document pupils’ learning and development. Pupils will be able to reflect on their work and feel a sense a pride when they see their learning captured and displayed.
